Methane

Methane (CH4) is the second most important greenhouse gas produced by humans and has a greenhouse efficiency 25 times higher than CO2. 1 ton of methane equals to 25 ton of CO2. The most important source of methane is livestock, especially cattle, other sources are the wet rice cultivation, waste dumps, and the combustion of biomass.

Mitigation

Mitigation means to reduce, to limit and is a technical term for the reduction or mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. Mitigation refers to measures aimed at reducing or preventing the effects of climate change. It includes measures to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases that cause climate change, as well as measures to adapt to the effects of climate change that are already occurring or are expected to occur in the future. An example of a measure to reduce emissions is the promotion of renewable energy such as solar and wind energy instead of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. An example of a climate change adaptation measure is increasing the resilience of infrastructure and communities to extreme weather events such as floods and droughts.
